WAXAHACHIE — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets notched their sixth win in eight outings Tuesday, collecting a 7-2 non-conference victory over the Southwestern Assemblies of God Lions.

Howard Payne (12-9) jumped in front 2-0 after two innings, but SAGU (13-29) knotted the score in the bottom of the fourth. The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good with a single run in the fifth, then added three insurance runs in the seventh and one in the ninth.

Shawn Brody, Nathan Weyrauch, Jonathan George and Zach Moseley combined to toss a three-hitter for the Yellow Jackets, with Weyrauch tallying the victory. Brody struck out three, walked one and surrendered both runs and all three hits. The bullpen did not yield a hit, struck out nine and walked three in five innings.

HPU’s offensive output featured eight hits — two by Will Roberts and one each by ASC Hitter of the Week Noah Payne, David Groves, Brett Quackenbush, Cody Brown, Blake Laney and Walker Dailey. Laney tallied two RBIs followed by Quackenbush, Roberts, Brown and Dailey with one apiece.

The Yellow Jackets will face Arlington Baptist in a three-game non-conference road series Friday and Saturday.
