EARLY — The Early Longhorns and Lady Horns both won District 7-3A tennis championships earlier this week and earned a combined six berths into the Region I-3A tournament. The top two finishers in each draw secured spots in the regional field, which will compete at Rose Park Tennis Center in Abilene on April 18-19.
District champions included Kwade Boyd, a state qualifier a year ago, in boys singles; the girls doubles team of Jaden Satterlee and Inayat Kang; and the mixed doubles duo of Cody Luttrell and Brooke Charon.
Qualifying as district runners-up were Steven Armstrong in boys singles; the boys doubles team of Steve Cornelio and Sahib Kang; and the girls doubles tandem of Hannah Jones and Katie Satterlee.
Placing third for Early were Kaitlynn Sierson in girls singles, while Issac Clubb and Cameron Hill came in fourth in mixed doubles.
The JV Longhorns also captured a district team title, while the JV Lady Horns finished second.
Top performers included Brennan Hawkins in boys singles and Adrianna Portillo in girls singles, who both won their draws.
Finishing second were Trevor Brooks in boys singles, the mixed doubles duo of Hayden Turner and Hallie Brinson and the boys doubles tandem of Brett Shaw and Brandon Newman.
