BANGS — The Bangs Dragons moved into a tie for first place atop the District 7-3A baseball standings as they concluded the first half of league play with a 10-5 victory over the Comanche Indians Friday.
Bangs (6-9, 3-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. The Dragons led Comanche (6-6, 3-1) by a 6-1 count after two innings and 10-4 through three frames.
Offensively, the Dragons collected eight hits and drew seven walks. Mason Reichenau walked three times, scored three runs and picked up an RBI. Colton Brewer added a pair of hits and two RBIs while Tucker Tarpley finished with three hits, two runs and an RBI. Zach Fuqua and Charlie Bettis contributed one hit and one RBI apiece, while Payton Hamrick chipped in a hit and Zach Zink tacked on an RBI.
On the mound, Brewer pitched 5.1 innings and gave up three runs — two earned — on five hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Chance Beck finished the game and yielded a pair of runs on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Lady Dragons 4,
BANGS — The Bangs Lady Dragons held off the Comanche Maidens, 4-3, Friday to cap a District 7-3A sweep and maintain their one-game lead over Early.
Trailing 3-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning, Bangs (19-4, 5-0) scored twice to pull even and pushed the winning run across the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
During Bangs’ final at-bat. Taylor Malett and Raelee Francois walked, then Ashton Crow singled to load the bases before Comanche (4-9, 2-2) recorded an out. Erin Anderson’s RBI infield single scored Malett with the winning run.
Anderson also picked up the win in the circle, allowing three runs — one earned — on four hits with six strikeouts.
Offensive standouts for the Lady Dragons were Anderson with a hit and two RBIs, Crow, Vanessa Perez and Kenedi Deal with singles and Francois with four walks.
Bangs led 1-0 after one inning as Francois scored when Anderson reached on one of Comanche’s six errors.
The Lady Dragons rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the fourth as Perez singled and scored when Kynedi Bradley reached on an error. Later in the inning, Karlie Little was hit by a pitch and scored from third on another Comanche miscue.
Longhorns 5, Brady 0
EARLY — The Early Longhorns moved within a game of District 7-3A co-leaders Bangs and Comanche with Friday’s 5-0 shutout victory over the Brady Bulldogs.
The Longhorns (6-9, 2-2) received a four-hit pitching performance from Ryan Reynolds and Christian Alcorta. Reynolds started and went 5.2 innings, allowing the four hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Alcorta recorded the final four outs, surrendering a pair of walks with a strikeout.
Early scored three runs in the first inning and added one each in the third and fourth frames.
The Longhorns’ seven-hit attack featured two hits and an RBI from Tristan Horton — who homered — and a pair of hits from David Morales. Alcorta doubled, Trace Evans singled and drove in a run, and Abel Hernandez added a base hit against Brady (5-10, 0-4) pitching.
Lady Horns 9, Brady 0
EARLY — The Early Lady Horns completed a season sweep of the Brady Lady Bulldogs, 9-0, Friday afternoon.
Early remained in second place in the District 7-3A standings with the victory, improving to 5-1 in league play and 16-9 overall
