At the midway points of the Region I-4A boys golf tournament in Lubbock and the Region I-3A boys golf tournament in Abilene, both Brownwood’s Jaryn Pruitt and Early’s Jake Angerstein are nestled within the top 10.

The top three teams at regionals, and top three finishers not on one of the qualifying teams, will advance to the UIL State Golf Championships.

At Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock, Pruitt — the District 6-4A champion — carded an opening 76 Monday, which was the fourth best round of the day.

Heading into today’s final 18 holes, Pruitt is tied with Seminole’s Luke Wimmer, Aaron Robledo and Branson Moore, along with Borger’s Nathaniel Larios. The group trails first-round co-leaders J.T. Pittman of Monahans and Coby Bryant of Graham, who both shot 72s. Next is Snyder’s Jake Leatherwood and Perryton’s Paxton Denton with 74s, while Monahans’ Joey Kick posted a 75.

Team-wise, Monahans and Seminole share the lead with a 308 while Decatur (311), Snyder and Graham (316s each), Perryton (318) and Stephenville (321) are within striking distance.

At the Region I-3A meet at Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene, Angerstein — the District 7-3A champion — fired an opening 82, which left him tied for ninth place. Results from other regional tournament golfers was unavailable at press time.
