Lady Dragons, Lady Horns unveil season schedules

Though the Bangs Dragons and Early Longhorns are no longer district rivals on the gridiron, the Lady Dragons and Lady Horns will continue their district rivalry in volleyball in the new 6-3A this season as the 2016 schedules for both teams were recently released.

Both teams made the playoffs last year as part of the four-team District 7-3A, but this year a postseason berth isn’t guaranteed. The Lady Dragons and Lady Horns will be vying for one of four playoff spots along with Breckenridge, Comanche, Dublin and Eastland in the revamped six-team District 6-3A.

The Lady Horns and Lady Dragons will meet twice in district action — Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. in Early and Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Bangs.

The Lady Dragons hit the court for the first time officially at the Albany tournament Aug. 11-13, then Bangs visits Brownwood (Aug. 16) and Lampasas (Aug. 20) before the home opener against Gustine (Aug. 23). Bangs will also battle Miles (Aug. 30), Albany (Sept. 6) and Bronte (Sept. 13) at home before 6-3A action commences. Non-district road matches for the Lady Dragons include Wall (Sept. 17) and an appearance in the Dublin tournament (Aug. 25. and 27).

The district slate for Bangs opens Sept. 24 at Dublin followed by a visit from Breckenridge (Sept. 27), trips to Early (Oct. 1) and Comanche (Oct. 4) and a home date with Eastland (Oct. 8). The second half of league action features a visit from Dublin (Oct. 11), the drive to Breckenridge (Oct. 15), back-to-back home games against Early (Oct. 18) and Comanche (Oct. 22) and the regular season finale at Eastland (Oct. 25).

As for the Lady Horns’ schedule, their season also begins Aug. 11-13 at the Albany tournament followed by the home opener Aug. 16 against Clyde. Early will also venture to Mullin (Aug. 23), Hamilton (Aug. 30) and Sonora (Sept. 20) before district action begins. Additional non-district home dates include Sonora (Sept. 13) and Tolar (Sept. 16). The Lady Horns will also compete in the Grape Creek (Aug. 27) and Stephenville (Sept. 10) one-day tournaments.

District 6-3A action begins for Early on Sept. 24 as Breckenridge visits followed by a trip to Eastland (Sept. 27), the Bangs (Oct. 1) home game, a visit to Dublin (Oct. 4) and a home game against Comanche (Oct. 8) to wrap up the first half of district. On Oct. 11, the second half of district action begins at Breckenrige then Eastland (Oct. 15) visits. Early travels to Bangs (Oct. 18) followed by the Senior Day game against Dublin (Oct. 22) and the regular season concludes at Comanche (Oct. 25).
