In less than a month, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets will begin the exhibition portion of their soccer schedules, with season openers for both teams slated for Sept. 1.
The Lady Jackets (3-10-2, 2-8-2 in ASC) will be under the direction of new head coach Brandon Badgeley, a 2009 HPU graduate, while Estevan Arbaiza returns as head coach for the Yellow Jackets (4-10-1, 2-8-1 in ASC). Both Howard Payne squads seek a return to the American Southwest Conference soccer championship tournaments after missing out in 2015.
The Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets host Paul Quinn in an exhibition doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Citizens National Bank Field. The women then venture to Southwestern Assemblies of God on Aug. 27, while the men travel to Wayland Baptist on Aug. 28 in their final exhibition action.
The regular season kicks off for both teams on Thursday, Sept. 1 at the University of Dallas, while the Yellow Jackets will head to Centenary on Sept. 3. Meanwhile, the Lady Jackets will host Huston-Tillotson on Sept. 3 in their home opener.
The remainder of the Lady Jackets’ pre-conference slate features a game against Pacific in Belton on Sept. 8, followed by home games against Southwestern (Sept. 11) and Houston-Victoria (Sept. 13).
The Yellow Jackets’ home opener falls on Sept. 13 against Schreiner, while the HPU men will host East Texas Baptist on Sept. 15 in a non-conference encounter.
