Jackets fall at Centenary, 2-0
It took 103 minutes and 45 seconds, but the Howard Payne Lady Jackets scored the only goal in Saturday’s 1-0, double-overtime home-opening victory over the Huston-Tillotson Lady Rams at Citizens National Bank Field.
The Lady Jackets (2-0), coming off a 2-0 victory at the University of Dallas in Thursday’s season opener, attempted just 10 shots and five on goal, but Darbi Frazier’s final attempt found the net.
In goal, the Lady Jackets turned away 11 Huston-Tillotson (0-2) shots on frame as the Lady Rams attempted 17 shots overall.
The Lady Jackets are back in action at 7 p.m. Thursday against Pacific in Georgetown.
Centenary 2, Yellow Jackets 0
SHREVEPORT, La. — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets suffered their second defeat in as many outings this season, falling to former American Southwest Conference rival Centenary, 2-0, Saturday night.
The Yellow Jackets, coming off a season-opening 5-1 loss at the University of Dallas Thursday, surrendered one goal to Centenary (2-0) in each half.
Centenary opened the scoring 23:35 into the contest as Nick Hammond scored with an assist from Travis Schantz assist.
In the second half, Hammond added a second goal with 27:21 left on an assist from Braylen Hollins.
Howard Payne attempted 10 shots with two on goal — by Tracer Moore and Anthony Chavez.
Centenary fired 15 shots with 11 on target.
Brandon Gibeney went the distance in goal for HPU, allowing two goals while recording eight saves.
The Yellow Jackets are off until Sept. 13 when they host Schreiner in their home opener.
