After helping lead the Howard Payne Lady Jackets to a 1-1 record last week, junior setter Cheyanne Lovelady has been recognized as the Offensive Player of the Week by the American Southwest Conference.
Lovelady, a Bangs High School graduate, proved a major factor in helping HPU take down ASC West Division leader Hardin-Simmons in three straight sets last week. She registered 30 assists and added nine digs and one service ace in the victory.
Lovelady also helped rally the Lady Jackets back from an 0-2 deficit to take McMurry deep into a fifth set before falling in dramatic fashion. It was during this match that Lovelady recorded 54 assists, topping her season-high tally by two. She added 12 digs, one service ace and assisted on three blocks.
Lovelady has been a prominent fixture in a Lady Jacket offense that has taken major leaps forward this season. In all, Lovelady recorded a total of 84 assists for a 10.5 per-set average while tacking on 21 digs and two service aces last week.
The Lady Jackets (5-8, 2-3) are back in action at 6 p.m. Friday when they host Concordia, and at 2 p.m. Saturday they welcome Mary Hardin-Baylor to the Brownwood Coliseum.
