Brownwood improves to 5-1 in district after 25-14, 20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 17-15 win
SWEETWATER — The Brownwood Lady Lions clawed their way back from a two sets to one deficit for a five-set District 5-4A volleyball road victory over the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs Friday night.
Brownwood's 25-14, 20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 17-15 triumph improved the team's district record to 5-1 while the overall mark stands at 19-16 with two regular season matches remaining — at Snyder Friday and at district leader Abilene Wylie on Oct. 25.
The Lady Lions' offensive attack was paced by Torrey Miller's 20 kills followed by 10 from Mikaela Smith, seven from Bailey Randle, six from Cheyenne Stroope, two each from Aleyia Cotton and Ashlyn Patteson and one apiece by Annie Gillispie, Alex Fowler and Tyra Cotton.
Hadley Monroe distributed 25 assists while Miller added 15, Aleyia Cotton chipped in four and Smith was credited with one.
Miller and Smith both served a pair of aces while Randle, Monroe and Kayla McFarden added one apiece.
Defensively, McFarden recorded a season-high 44 digs trailed by Randle and Monroe with 18 apiece, Miller with 16, Gillispie with 15, Madi Gosch with 11, Smith with six, Aleyia Cotton with five, Trinity Buitron with three, Stroope and Patteson with two apiece and Fowler with one.
At the net, Stroope, Miller, Smith and Aleyia Cotton each recorded a block.
