The Howard Payne Lady Jackets continued their march toward their first American Southwest Conference volleyball tournament since 2000 with a four-set win over Sul Ross Tuesday.

By virtue of their 25-10, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15 triumph, the Lady Jackets improved to 8-12 overall and 5-7 in the ASC West — one game better than Concordia (9-12, 4-8) which HPU swept, with two conference matches remaining at third-place McMurry and second-place Hardin-Simmons this weekend.

The top three teams from each division advance to the ASC championship tournament, hosted by the West No. 1 seed. However, McMurry is ineligible due to reclassification from Division II, and HPU is alone in fourth place in the West.

In Tuesday’s victory at the Brownwood Coliseum, Zhartezia Bradley collected 15 kills followed by 13 from Alyssa Beasley, 10 from Kailey Doering, seven from Cheyanne Lovelady and six from Shelbie Harry.

Lovelady also finished with 41 assists and an ace while Brittany Taylor served a team-high five aces followed by two each from Briana Williams and Callie Molloy.

Defensively, Taylor chalked up 18 digs followed by Analisa Anzaldua with 17, Molloy and Williams with 11 apiece, Lovelady with three, and Beasley and Doering with two each.

Bradley was in on three blocks, Macy Maniscalo added two and Doering and Beasley chipped in one each.

For Sul Ross (3-20, 2-10), Vidalia Sanchez recorded 10 kills, Katie Reeves finished with 20 assists, McKenna Jane Thomas tallied 17 digs and Alison Muldrow collected three blocks and one ace.
