CISCO — The Bangs Dragons were without five starters as they traveled to Cisco to face the undefeated and Class 3A Division II second-ranked Cisco Loboes. The Loboes offensive attack was relentless, scoring on every one of their possessions to roll to the 69-0 District 4-3A Division II victory Friday night.
Bangs (2-5, 0-3) was forced into using a combination of Brian Sterling and Justin Wilson at quarterback after junior Colton Brewer went down with an ankle injury during last week’s 60-18 home loss to Tolar.
The Dragons offense was noticeably impacted by the loss and it didn’t help that they faced a dominating front line from the Loboes. Bangs was limited to 73 yards of total offense — 49 rushing and 24 passing — with the game’s onle turnover.
Cisco (6-1, 3-0) never let Bangs find any rhythm on offense and started its scoring early in the first quarter.
After forcing the Dragons into a four-and-out possession to start the game, the Loboes — who racked up 442 yards, with 300 coming on the ground — used a mixture of pass and run to score on their first possession of the game.
K.J. Kelley came in and took the option right for a 13-yard touchdown to get Cisco on the board with the only points the Loboes needed.
Cisco never looked back, scoring on five more first-half drives while holding Bangs without a first down in the half.
The Dragons didn’t pick up a first down until the final minute of the third quarter, while Cisco continued to march down the field, stretching a 42-0 halftime lead to 56-0 through three quarters.
Bangs elected to go for it on fourth down on their second possession of the game but failed to convert.
That gave the Loboes good field position and Kase Gayle used his feet to punch the ball over the goal-line to go up 14-0 after the extra point. After getting another rushing touchdown, Kase Gayle — who passed for 142 yards and rushed for 49 — used his arm to score the next touchdown, finding Kelley for another touchdown deep in the right corner.
Later in the first half, Cisco found end zone again as this time Leslie Edgar reeled in a catch in a flats left formation and punched the ball over the goal line to put the Loboes up 42-0 at the half.
The dynamic offense continued in the second half as Edgar took the ball on the very first possession and rushed to his right and then cut back through the middle of the field for a 30 yard gain, setting Cisco up for its seventh touchdown of the game and extending their lead to 49-0
The Loboes then slowed the game down dramatically and used their rushing attack to keep control. They would end up scoring three more touchdowns before the game finished to roll away with the 69-0 result.
For Bangs, Sterling rushed for 41 yards and completed 2 of 7 passes for 14 yards. Wilson was 2 of 8 for 10 yards through the air while Colton Martin rushed for 10 yards and Zach Allen added 9. Tanner James hauled in two receptions for 14 yards while Sterling and Kevin Blaine each added a 5-yard catch.
Next week, Bangs hosts No. 9 Eastland (6-2, 3-0), which is coming off 30-14 victory over Coleman.
