In their first American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament appearance since 2000, the West Division third seed Howard Payne Lady Jackets will face East Division runner-up UT-Tyler in the first round.
Pairings for the six-team, double-elimination tournament set to be held at West Division champion Mary Hardin-Baylor the weekend of Nov. 3-5 were released Monday night.
Howard Payne (8-14, 5-9) — making just its second ASC tournament appearance in the league’s history — and UT-Tyler (17-6, 7-5) will square off at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3. The Lady Jackets dropped a three-set decision to UT-Tyler, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18, on Oct. 14 in the second ASC Crossover hosted by UT-Dallas.
The winner will face Mary Hardin-Baylor (17-7, 11-3) at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3, with the loser dropping into the elimination bracket with a noon Nov. 4 contest against either West No. 2 seed Hardin-Simmons (14-9, 10-4), East No. 3 seed East Texas Baptist (8-12, 5-7) or East Division champion and reigning ASC champ UT-Dallas (24-1, 12-0).
The tournament championship game will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 5, with an “if” game slated for 5:30 p.m. The ASC tournament winner earns an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship.
Prior to the ASC tournament, however, the Lady Jackets have four games scheduled at the McMurry Halloween tournament this weekend.
The Lady Jackets will face ASC rival and host McMurry — which is ineligible for the postseason due to reclassifying from the NCAA Division II ranks — at 1 p.m. Friday and Jarvis Christian at 5 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, Howard Payne will battle Texas College at 9 a.m. and the University of Dallas at 1 p.m.
