SAN ANGELO — Isaiah Herrera’s jumper in the closing seconds allowed the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets to shock Division II Eastern New Mexico, 66-65, Saturday night in their first game at the Angelo State Ed Messbarger Classic.

ENMU (1-3) was able to surge to back in front, but Herrera — who scored a team-high 20 points —delivered the dagger to give HPU its first win in a season opener since the 2010-11 campaign.
Khyce Randall chipped in 15 points for HPU followed by Shadd Cole with 11, Da’Marcus Hurd with seven, Rickey Guillory with six, J Bailey with five and Talen Davis-Renfro with two points.

Eastern New Mexico — which drained 38 percent (25 of 66) of its shots, 17 percent (3 of 18) of its treys and just 48 percent (12 of 25) of its free throws — was led by the 20 points of Marquise Harris, the lone Greyhound in double figures.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action at 4 p.m. today against tournament host Angelo State.
