ABILENE — Following Saturday’s six-point loss to San Saba in the finale of the San Saba tournament, the No. 16 Brownwood Lady Lions suffered a second straight setback heading into Thanksgiving.
For the first time this season, the Lady Lions are in the midst of a losing streak following Tuesday night’s 53-34 loss at Class 6A Abilene High.
The second and third quarters were the difference in the contest, as Brownwood (10-3) was outscored 31-12 in those two frames.
After one quarter, the Lady Lions were down 13-10 and the deficit grew to 31-16 by halftime. After three periods, Brownwood was in a 44-22 hole.
The Lady Lions committed 32 turnovers and shot 33 percent from the floor, 13 percent on three-pointers and 61 percent on free throws.
Sadie Smith led the Lady Lions with nine points followed by Mallory Garcia with seven, Daisy Green, Ryleigh Dalleh and Taytum Sutton with four apiece, Tyanne Stewart with three, Mya Wallace with two and Sage Cupps with one point.
The Lady Lions are off until Tuesday when they host Hamilton at 6:30 p.m.
