Longhorns, Dragons drop league openers; May boys allows two points in victory

EARLY — The Early Lady Horns bounced back from their first District 6-3A defeat by thrashing the Coleman Bluekatts, 56-33, Friday night.

Early (15-10, 2-1) trailed Coleman (10-16, 1-2) by a 10-7 count after one quarter, but seized a 20-12 halftime lead that grew to 42-24 at the end of the third period.

Hallie Tyler scored a game-high 14 points for the Lady Horns while Jayslin King and Makayla Deleon also finished in double figures with 11 points each. Lauren Jesko tacked on eight points followed by Kacee Gober with six, Alexis Ray with four and Ellie Ryan with two.

The Lady Horns host Dublin at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Lady Dragons 51, Dublin 43

DUBLIN — The Bangs Lady Dragons chalked up their first District 6-3A victory of the season, knocking off Dublin by a 51-43 count.

The Lady Dragons (4-18, 1-2) led by as many as 14 points in the fourth period.

Taylor Malett scored 20 points for Bangs while Kyra Smith added 15.

The Lady Dragons travel to Brady Tuesday.

Coleman 52, Longhorns 35

EARLY — The Early Longhorns came up on the short end of their District 6-3A opener against the Coleman Bluecats, falling by a 52-35 count Friday night.

The Longhorns (7-12, 0-1) trailed 11-4 after one quarter, 24-18 at halftime and 33-24 through three periods.

Drew Sessler led Early with 11 points and four steals while Rowdy Elkins, Ty Schafer and Griffin Ehlers chipped in six points apiece. Josh Graves added four points and Devyn Burns finished with two. Schafer’s seven rebounds were a team-high while Christian Mills finished with five steals, three assists and a block.

Early hosts Dublin at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Dublin 66, Dragons 49

DUBLIN — The Bangs Dragons’ two-game win streak came to an end in the District 6-3A opener, as Dublin tallied a 66-49 win Friday.

Bangs (8-12, 0-1) trailed 18-5 after one quarter, 37-22 at halftime and 61-30 through three periods.

Colton Brewer led the Dragons with 14 points followed by Dawson Light and Brian Sterling with eight each, George Nicholas with six, Trett Mitchell with five, Cason Taylor with four and J.B. Eoff with three points.

The Dragons will venture to Brady Tuesday.

May Tigers 63, Rising Star 2

MAY — The May Tigers almost pitched a shutout Friday night in District 15-A basketball action, holding Rising Star scoreless over the first three quarters in a 63-2 home victory.

May (13-3, 4-0) led 15-0 after one stanza, 37-0 at halftime and 50-0 through three periods.

Wyatt Mote finished with 10 points for May followed by Gage Keckler and Tyler Wheeler with nine apiece, A.J. Martin with eight, Dalton Self, Cameron King and Jacob Brown with six apiece, Kase Cox with five and Austin McAbee with four points.

The Tigers host Eula Tuesday.
