Longhorns, Lady Dragons, Dragons drop district contests
EARLY — The Early Lady Horns seized sole possession of the District 6-3A basketball lead by avenging an earlier loss to Brady, 27-25, Friday night.
The Lady Horns (19-10, 6-1) — who dropped a 39-32 decision at Brady (17-11, 5-2) on Jan. 10 — earned their fifth consecutive victory by fighting off a late surge from the Lady Bulldogs.
Early jumped out to a 11-4 lead after one quarter that stood at 18-12 at halftime and 23-17 through three periods, but Brady owned an 8-4 edge on the scoreboard the final period.
Lauren Jesko scored nine points to pace Early followed by six from Hallie Tyler and three points apiece from Hunter Coffee, Shaunna Kay Connelly, Makayla Deleon and Kacee Gober.
The Lady Horns visit Coleman Tuesday night.
Comanche 56, Dragons 42
COMANCHE — The Bangs Dragons were denied a District 6-3A win streak as they remained in fifth place in the league standings following a 56-42 loss at Comanche Friday night.
The Dragons (9-15, 1-4) trailed Comanche (7-11, 2-3) by a 13-11 count after one quarter, 24-19 at halftime and 42-32 heading to the fourth period.
Landon James paced Bangs with 14 points followed by eight from Brian Sterling and seven points from Colton Brewer.
Bangs hosts Dublin Tuesday night.
Brady 44, Longhorns 35
EARLY — The Early Longhorns were again denied their first District 6-3A basketball victory, falling to Brady by a 44-35 count Friday night.
The Longhorns (7-16, 0-5) were down 16-6 after one quarter, 25-17 at halftime and 38-27 through three periods.
Ty Schafer scored a team-high 13 points for the Longhorns trailed by six from Drew Sessler, four from Devyn Burns, three from Josh Graves and two points apiece from Jake Angerstein, Rowdy Elkins and Griffin Ehlers.
Early welcomes Coleman Tuesday night.
