Each year the Texas Sports Writers Association publishes their All-State selections for each major sport in the state and their football picks are finally out, as the organization made them public just this week. Two local area players made the list, with both Brownwood and Bangs producing athletes who were recognized.

Brownwood High School’s Jeremy Brown was selected to the Class 4A third-team defense. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior plays both ways for the Lions as a wide receiver on offense and in the secondary on defense, but was chosen due to his outstanding play as a strong safety.

Brown recorded 75 tackles including 62 solos with three tackles for loss, five pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and four interceptions, including a pick six.

Colton Brewer of Bangs High School was the other area selection, making the honorable mention list for defensive players in Class 3A. Brewer’s special play as a free safety is what landed the junior on the list, but the 6-foot, 175-pounder plays quarterback for the Dragons as well.

Brewer finished the season with 110 tackles, including 63 solos, with three interceptions and 12 pass breakups.

The Texas Sports Writers Association promotes the recognition of the athletic accomplishments of Texas high school student-athletes by selecting athletes for the TSWA’s All-State teams and recognizing the accomplishments of the Texas High School coaches for their outstanding work with the future leaders of America.

TSWA’s members are sports writers and sports editors from daily and weekly newspapers from across the state of Texas as well as sports internet services.

The entire list of selections ranging from Class 2A to Class 6A are available on the organization’s website, txswa.org.
