Brownwood picks up win in tune up for Tuesday's bi-district battle with Graham

HAMILTON — The Brownwood Lions are heading into their first bi-district playoff game since 2012 with some positive momentum after snapping a three-game losing streak Friday night, 62-46 over Stephenville in playoff warm-up action.

The District 5-4A runner-up Lions (18-13) raced out to a 21-14 lead after one quarter, which stood at 38-32 at halftime. Then Brownwood put Stephenville away during the third period by opening a 56-38 advantage by the end of the frame.

“We walked away with a lot of confidence,” said Lions first-year head coach Nadir Dalleh. “We haven’t been shooting the ball very well lately and tonight we did great. I think our field goal percentage was higher than our free throw percentage and that never happens. It’s not supposed to, but in this case it was definitely okay. We did well and shot well. We’re going to need to do it again soon.”

Corleone Pressley led the Lions with 13 points followed by Tristin Revada with 11, Blaine Hughes with eight, Blake Bronniman and McLane Moore with six apiece, A.J. McCarty with four and Gavin Jefferson, Sean Yoder and Theo Bryant with three points each.

The Lions will face District 6-4A third-seed Graham at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Clyde in Region I-4A bi-district action. Brownwood dropped a 66-51 decision at Graham on Jan. 3.
