Lions slip to fourth place as a team

BIG SPRING — Brownwood’s Jaryn Pruitt moved into sole possession of first place in the District 5-4A boys golf tournament following Monday’s second-round score of 72.

Coupled with a first-round 77, Pruitt’s composite score of 149 gives him a two-stroke edge over Snyder’s Jake Leatherwood, who moved into second place with a second-round 70 following an opening 81 (151 total).

Pruitt entered the second round in third place, two shots back of Big Spring’s Nolan Otto (75-79=154) and one shot behind Wylie’s Ethan Stewart-Duke (76-81=157), who now trail Pruitt by five and eight strokes, respectively.

As a team, the Lions slipped out of a tie for third place and into fourth with a team score of 344, giving them a 671 composite. Big Spring (324-324=648) leads the tournament, followed by Snyder (325-309=634) and Wylie (327-332=659). The top two teams, and top two individuals not on those teams, advance to the Region I-4A tournament at Shadow Hills in Lubbock April 24-25.

Along with Pruitt, the Lions received an 89 from Ben Kallman (84+89=173), a 90 from Parker Dorsett (84+90=174), and 93s from Caden Reagan (82+93=175) and Jordan Ortega (95+93=188).

Competing as medalists for Brownwood in the second round were Sawyer Dodds with his second straight 102, Caden Newbern with a 106 and Bryson Wells with a 110.

The final round of the 54-hole District 5-4A boys golf tournament will take place at 9 a.m. Monday at the Brownwood Country Club.
