EARLY — The District 6-3A softball champion Early Lady Horns were denied an undefeated run through the league schedule as the Comanche Maidens chalked up an 8-5 victory in Friday’s regular season finale for both teams.

Early (22-7, 9-1) will move on to face Coahoma in the bi-district round of the Region I-3A softball playoffs. Game 1 will be held at Abilene Christian University at 5 p.m. Thursday with Games 2 and 3, if needed, to take place at 5 p.m. Saturday at ACU.

In Friday’s loss to Comanche (20-7, 8-2), the Lady Horns took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Sydnee Shea walked, stole second and scored on Laiken Reagan’s RBI single.

Comanche answered with three runs in the top of the third, but the Lady Horns drew even in the fourth inning. Parker Smith singled, stole second and came home on an RBI triple by Reagan in the third to close the gap to 3-2, while Vance-Cady Gordon doubled and scored on a passed ball in the fourth to even the score.

The Maidens seized a 6-3 advantage in the sixth, but the Lady Horns remained close with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Shea’s two-RBI base hit plated Gordon, who was hit by a pitch, and Smith, who walked.

Comanche tacked on two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh, while the Lady Horns went quietly in their final at-bat.
