EARLY — The Early Longhorns scored twice in the bottom of the first inning, and that proved to be all they needed in a 2-1 victory over District 6-3A champion Comanche Friday night.
The Longhorns (16-9, 7-3) locked up the second playoff seed from the district, and could have split the 6-3A title with Comanche (16-8, 8-2) had it not been for a 7-6 extra-inning loss at Dublin Thursday night, a game in which Early squandered a three-run lead.
In Friday’s win, Tristan Horton tossed a complete-game five-hitter with five strikeouts and three walks.
Early’s first inning featured a leadoff single by Kylar Mercer and a two-run homer to right field by Horton. Ryan Hill later chipped in a single, as the Longhorns mustered just three hits.
Comanche tallied its only run in the top of the sixth inning and left two runners stranded during the frame.
