CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets opened American Southwest Conference women’s soccer action with their second consecutive victory Thursday afternoon, 3-2 over the Ozarks Lady Eagles.
Howard Payne (2-1-1) tallied two goals in the first half before a previously undefeated Ozarks (4-1, 0-1) squad rallied to draw even in the second half. With 1:25 left in regulation, however, Lesly Garcia recorded her second goal on an assist from Annisa Peralta for the Lady Jacket game winner.
Rachel Crane staked HPU to a 1-0 lead 18:16 into the contest on a one-on-one goal against the keeper with an assist from Dayane Gutierrez. Just 1:20 later, Garcia scored her first goal on a penalty kick.
Ozarks closed the gap to 2-1 with 26:23 to go as Georgia Warren scored with an assist from Rebecca McCarron. With 18:49 left on the clock, Ozarks knotted the score at 2 as Brittanie Gragg scored with the assist coming from Breanna Aguiliar.
The Lady Jackets finished with 12 shots, eight on goal, compared to the Lady Eagles’ 15 shots with six on target. HPU goal keeper Nicole Goodwin recorded six saves.
HPU will visit UT-Tyler at 2 p.m. Saturday.
