COPPERAS COVE — The Brownwood Lady Lions track and field team opened the season with a third place finish at the Bulldawg Relays on Saturday. Competing as the smallest school in the field, the Lady Lions scored 98.5 points and trailed only Harker Heights and Killeen Ellison, both 6A schools.

The Lady Lions were led with first-place finishes from Trinity Jackson in the pole vault (9-6) and the 300 meter hurdles (49.17). Jackson was also third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.39.

Kyra Young had two first-place finishes in the 800 meters (2:21) and the 1600 meters (5:36), while Izzy Lawerence was first in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:49.

Coming in second was Audrey Boren in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 12:51.

Placing third were Caitlyn Tucker in the pole vault, clearing 7-6, and Alex Fowler in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:57.

Fourth-place efforts belonged to Lawrence in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:56; the 4×100 relay team of Caroline Cloy, Davalynn Monroe, Lakyn Ratliff, and Aleyia Cotton with a time of 51.26; and the 4×400 team of Cotton, Alyssa Couey, Julia Nash, and Young finished with a time of 4:14.

Rounding out the scoring in fifth place were Fowler in the 1600 meters (6:02), and Couey in the high jump (4-8).

The Lady Lions will next be in action on Saturday at the Ram Relays in Mineral Wells.
