SAN ANGELO — The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions track and field squads both earned team championships at the San Angelo Relays over the weekend, and established four new meet records along the way.
The four records that were broken came on the boys side — Patrick Nash in the 100 meters (10.81), Braden Jetton in the 200 meters (22.32, breaking his own record from last year), the 4x100 relay team of Nash, Jetton, Gavin Jefferson and A.J. McCarty (42.47) and the 4x200 relay team of Royshad Henderson, Nash, Jetton and McCarty (1:28.97).
The Lions generated 132 points to outdistance runner-up Sonora (115) and third-place Wall (80). The Lady Lions, meanwhile, produced 124.5 points to top District 5-4A rival Abilene Wylie (102) and third-place Wall (84).
The boys collected 10 medals — six gold, one silver and three bronze.
Along with the aforementioned record-breakers, other event winners included McCarty in the triple jump (42-5.5) and the 4x400 relay of Henderson, Kirk Vickers, Jesse Sanchez and McCarty (3:25.41).
Paul David Quillin was the runner-up in the pole vault (14-0), while placing third were McCarty in the long jump (21-7.25), Jason Sanchez in the 800 meters (2:02.91) and Nick Salazar in the high jump (6-0).
Coming in fourth were Vickers in the triple jump (41-2.5), Jesse Sanchez in the 400 meters (52.19) and Tommy Bowden in the 300-meter hurdles (42.54).
Fifth-place efforts belonged to Vickers in the long jump (20-4), Bowden in the 110-meter hurdles (16.25) and Blaize Infinger in the discus (130-2).
The Lady Lions brought home 11 medals — seven gold, two silvers and a pair of bronze.
Event winners were Kyra Young in both the 800 meters (2:18.26) and 1600 meters (5:31.79), Trinity Buitron in both the 100-meter hurdles (15.88) and 300-meter hurdles (46.68), Aleyia Cotton in the long jump (17-1.5), the 4x100 relay of Buitron, Lakyn Ratliff, Davalynn Monroe and Cotton (50.77), and the 4x400 relay of Cotton, Alyssa Couey, Monroe and Young (4:03.84).
Finishing as runners-up were Caroline Cloy in the 100-meter hurdles (16.53) and Kenya Barnes in the discus (110-7.5), while third-place efforts were turned in by Monroe in the 200 meters (27.26) and Ashlyn Storm in the 100 meters (13.39).
Placing fifth were Couey in the high jump (4-10) and Buitron in the pole vault (10-0).
Coming in sixth were Ratliff in the 100 meters (13.58), Alex Fowler in the 1600 meters (5:55.61) and Izzy Lawrence in the 3200 meters (12:57.8).
Brownwood will next compete at the Stephenville Relays on Thursday.
