SWEETWATER - For the third year in a row, Brownwood Lion junior Jaryn Pruitt is a boys district golf champion.
The reigning Class 4A boys golf state champion again defended his district title, winning the 5-4A championship Monday in Sweetwater.
Pruitt fired his third straight round under par, posting a 71 to along with rounds of 69 and 68 for a 208 total. Snyder's Jake Leatherwood finished as the runner with a 54-hole total of 214, posting a 69 Monday to shave two strokes of Pruitt's eight-shot lead after two rounds. Big Spring's Nolan Otto came in third with a 220, a dozen strokes behind Pruitt, to earn the second medalist spot at the regional tournament.
In the team standings, the Lions finished fourth overall with a 1,003. Coming into Monday's final round, the Lions were just four strokes out of second place, as the top two teams and top two individuals not on those teams advance to the Region I-4A tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock. Brownwood shot a 334, on the heels of rounds of 336 and 333, but finished 21 shots behind runner-up Wylie, which fired a final round 315 for a 982 total.
Snyder (953) won the district title followed by Wylie, Big Spring (983), Brownwood and Sweetwater (1,024).
Also competing for the Lions were John Murray (86-84-82=252), Caden Reagan (89-87-86=262) and Ben Kallman (92-94-95=281).
On the girls, the Lady Lions finished fifth at the 5-4A golf tournament with a 54-hole team total of 1,236. Brownwood trailed Wylie (971), Snyder (1,036), Big Spring (1,083) and Sweetwater (1,106).
Lady Lion Mallory Garcia placed eighth to earn all-district status with a 264, tallying rounds of 84, 89 and Monday's 91.
Also competing for the Lady Lions were Britlynn Bitters (106-106-109=321), Dalainy Garza (101-104-117=322), Bryanna Garza (112-107-107=326) and Averey Holden (105-106-126=337).
The boys portion of the regional tournament will take place April 23-24 with the girls to follow April 25-26.
