EARLY — The Early Lady Horns clinched at least a share of the District 6-3A softball championship with an 18-5 victory over Dublin in Tuesday's home finale.
The Lady Horns (16-3, 9-0) can lock up the district title outright when they visit Comanche (15-7, 8-1) in Friday's regular season finale. Early won the first meeting over Comanche, 5-2, at home on April 3.
In the win over Dublin (3-19, 2-7), Early erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning, added two in the second and scored six more runs in the fourth.
The Lady Horns' 20-hit onslaught — which featured six extra-base hits — included three and four RBIs from Sydnee Shea, three and two RBIs from MaKayla DeLeon, two and two RBIs from Emma Loven and two and one RBI each from Emma Connelly, Morgan Luckie, Alexa Portillo, Jenna Whitehead and Sheridan Brooks. Kailee Love also contributed a hit and two RBIs while Emily Rodriguez chipped in one hit and one RBI.
In the circle, DeLeon went the distance as she allowed five runs — four earned — on seven hits with nine strikeouts, three walks and two hit batters over five innings.
