Reigning Class 4A boys golf state champion Jaryn Pruitt of Brownwood earned the opportunity to defend his title, while Early’s Jake Angerstein qualified for his third consecutive Class 3A boys golf state tournament.

Pruitt finished second overall and was the top medalist at the Region I-4A tournament at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Lubbock, while Angerstein was fifth overall and the second medalist at the Region I-3A event at Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird.

The top three teams from each region, and top three golfers not on qualifying teams advance to state.

Pruitt opened with a 71 Monday and followed with a 69 Tuesday for a 140 composite, which trailed only Joey Kirk of Monahans, who posted rounds of 68 and 69 for a 137 total. Monahans (290-282=572), Andrews (314-305=619) and Perryton (327-306=633) advanced as teams.

Angerstein fired an opening 73 Monday then followed with a 76 Tuesday to tally a 149 composite score. Merkel’s Parker Doan won the title with a score of 140 following back-to-back rounds of 70. Brock’s Garrett Leek was the runner-up at (71-71=142) while Comanche’s Kasey Middleton was third (70-72=142) and Wall’s Coleman Coon was fourth (73-75=148).

Merkel won the team title with a 623 total followed by Comanche with a 635 and Brock with a 659.

The Class 3A boys state tournament will be held May 14-15 at Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin, while the 4A boys state tournament will take place the same days at Apple Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay.
