AUSTIN — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets finished seventh at the American Southwest Conference Golf Championship on Tuesday after the Lady Jackets also placed seventh this past week.
The Yellow Jackets shot a 944 (316-315-313) during the three-round event. HPU landed ahead of last-place Louisiana College by 64 strokes and behind sixth-place Mary Hardin-Baylor by 12 stokes. UT-Tyler won the event with an 871 team score.
Tyler James was Howard Payne's top performer finisher, tying for 18th place with a 230 (79-74-77). Andrew Errico finished just behind him, tied for 20th with a 231 (77-80-74). James was eighth in Par 4 scoring in the tournament at 4.17 (+4) and Errico was sixth in Par 3 scoring at 3.00 (E).
Kyle Anderson was 28th overall with a 240 (80-81-79), Reed Shelley was 32nd with a 246 (80-80-86) and Jordan White was tied for 34th with a 248 (83-82-83).
Last week, the Lady Jackets posted their lowest team score this season during the 36-hole, two-round ASC women's tournament with a 719 (359-360).
HPU finished 45 strokes ahead of last place UC Santa Cruz (765) and one-shot back of sixth-place LeTourneau (718). Mary Hardin-Baylor and UT-Tyler both fired 636s team scores to lead the pack.
Morgan Thomasson and Holly Gaskamp each finished with season low scores. Thomasson matched hee season tournament low score of 165 (82-83) to tie for 13th overall and Gaskamp bested her season low by 19 with a 176 (82-94), finishing tied for 24th.
Cali Brockway finished tied for 30th with a 185 (95-90) and shot a 193 (100-93) to finish 34th overall.
Both tournaments were held at Avery Ranch Golf Club.
The Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets completed their third full seasons since the program was reinstated in 2016.
