BRONTE - The Early Lady Horns posted a 2-4 record at the Bronte tournament over the weekend, rebounding from a winless effort in pool play Friday with a pair of wins in bracket action Saturday.

The Lady Horns defeated Marfa in three sets and Fort Davis in two sets after falling to Marfa earlier in three sets, along with Benjamin, Water Valley and Klondike in two sets.

In the three-set win over Marfa, Kacee Gober and Hope Boswell led Early with five kills trailed by four from Ellie Ryan, three each from Trinity Tomlinson and Alexa Portillo and one from Taylor Summers. Summers dished out seven assists and Vance Cady Gordon added six and served all four Early aces.

Defensively, Tomlinson and Emma Loven collected four digs while Portillo and Haley Spieckerman added two each. Gober and Ryan were credited with blocks.

The victory over Fort Davis saw Boswell chalk up three kills while Tomlinson and Gober added two apiece and Summers contributed one. Summers tallied two assists while Gober and Gordon each finished with one. Spieckerman and Loven served aces.

Tomlinson and Gordon led the way with four digs apiece, Ryan tallied three and Spieckerman and Portillo each recorded a pair. At the net, Gober finished with four blocks.

In Saturday's third match against Klondike, Ryan's three kills were a team-high followed by Gober and Portillo with two apiece and Boswell and Summers with one each. Summers also dished out three assists while Tomlinson and Gordon added one each. Ryan finished with a pair of aces and Gordon served one.

On defense, Loven netted two digs while Tomlinson, Summers and Ryan added one apiece. Gober and Ryan recorded Early's two blocks.

In Friday's setback against Marfa, Summers' four kills were a team-best followed by three from Tomlinson, two each from Boswell, Gober and Ryan and one from Portillo. Summers also distributed seven assists, Gordon tallied four and Tomlinson picked up one. Portillo served both aces.

The defensive effort featured six blocks from Gober and two apiece from Tomlinson and Ryan. Portillo was credited with seven digs trailed by five from Summers three each from Spieckerman and Ryan, two from Tomlinson and one from Gordon.

Against Benjamin, Tomlinson and Ryan posted three kills each, Boswell and Gober contributed two apiece and Summers and Kenzie Poindexter both added one. Gordon collected five assists and Summers added two. Meanwhile, Portillo served three aces while Tomlinson and Gordon finished with one each.

Defensively, Gober finished with a block and a dig, while Spieckerman, Gordon and Poindexter also picked up a dig apiece.

In the match against Water Valley, Tomlinson's four kills led the way trailed by three from Boswell, two each from Summers and Ryan and one from Gober. Six assists belonged to Summers while three came from Gordon. Tomlinson served the lone ace.

Ryan tallied the only block, while Tomlinson recorded two digs and Spieckerman, Gordon, Loven and Summers finished with one apiece.

The Lady Horns (9-11) are back in action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Brady, then host Mullin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
