In their first regular season outing of the 2018 campaign, the Howard Payne Lady Jackets soccer team came up on the short end of a 1-0 decision against Wayland Baptist Tuesday afternoon.

Moved to Gordon Wood Stadium from Citizens National Bank Field due to soggy conditions, Howard Payne’s home opener was spoiled when Wayland’s Megan Attenborough scored off a corner kick with 18:55 left in regulation.

The Lady Jackets attempted just four shots — two by Jada Austin and one each by Jayde Miyamoto and Megan Jakubisin — with two on frame.

Conversely, Wayland attempted nine shots with four on target, as HPU goal keeper Delaney Castor tallied two saves while the team was credited for a third.

The Lady Jackets will attempt to bounce back as they travel to the University of Dallas at 7 p.m. Saturday.
