The Brownwood JV and Freshman Lions football teams each collected their first victories of the season Thursday to improve to 1-1 on the 2018 campaign.
JV Lions 44, Snyder 6
The JV Lions scored on offense, defense and special teams in Thursday's rout of Snyder.
Royshad Henderson started the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown run, then Zach Bond followed with a pick six and Braden Bushnell added the two-point conversion.
Leading 14-0, the Lions surrendered a 100-yard kick return for Snyder's only points, but Alex Flores returned an interception 100 yards for two points on the PAT attempt, making the score 16-6.
Blaize Espinoza followed with a 56-yard scoring toss to Hunter Day, then Henderson again scored on a 60-yard carry. Espinoza added PATs after both, stretching the lead to 30-6.
Alex Flores tacked on a 3-yard touchdown run and Bushnell added the two-point try as Brownwood led 38-6 at halftime.
The only points of the second half came on the opening kick, which Dane Johnson returned 63 yards for a touchdown and the final 38-point margin of victory for the Lions.
Freshman Lions 28, Snyder 6
The Brownwood Freshman Lions put up four touchdowns over the third three periods and cruised to a victory over the Snyder Tigers.
Cade Jetton opened the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown run in the first period, then added a 51-yard scoring sprint in the second as the Lions built a 12-0 advantage.
Major Bowden followed with a 47-yard gallop to the end zone, and the two-point conversion, to extend the advantage to 20-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Brownwood's points were the result of a 13-yard touchdown run by Bowden and an Elias Huerta two-point conversion.
Snyder scored its only points late in the fourth period.
Defensive standouts for the Lions included Huerta and Damascus Calvin with four tackles each, Jakob Hataway with two tackles, Eugene Zuniga with a tackle for loss and a sack, and Devin Villegas with one tackle and a blocked punt.
