MINERAL WELLS — The Brownwood High tennis team opened District 7-4A action with a resounding road victory Thursday, blanking Mineral Wells, 19-0.
Playing in their first contest in the month of September, the Lions and Lady Lions exhibited little rust as just one match went to three sets.
In boys singles action, victories were tallied by No. 1 Gabe Hinojosa (7-5, 6-2 over Beau Dyess), No. 2 Mo Goff (6-1, 6-0 over Trevor Whitford), No. 3 James Bautista (6-0, 6-2 over Roy Baker), No. 4 Cameron Smith (6-0, 6-3 over Manuel Garcia), No. 5 Tanner Scull (6-3, 6-0 over Landon Houston) and No. 6 Oscar Ledezma (6-0, 6-0 over Emilio Infante).
On the girls side, singles wins were earned by No. 1 Piper Barberie (6-2, 6-0 over Sasha Kirsch), No. 2 Kaytlin Welch (6-1, 6-2 over Reagan Carter), No. 3 Lillian Jonescue (6-0, 6-2 over Mackenzie Lawhon), No. 4 Mckinzie Adkins (6-1, 6-2 over Emily Myrick), No. 5 Aaliyah Uvalle (6-2, 6-0 over Riley Ratto) and No. 6 Kaylee Renfroe (6-1, 6-1 over Gretchen Evans).
Chalking up doubles wins for the Lions were the No. 1 team of Goff and Hinojosa (6-1, 6-1 over Dyess and Whitford), No. 2 Scull and Bautista (6-0, 6-2 over Garcia and Houston) and No. 3 Smith and Matthew Bundick (6-1, 6-0 over Infante and Lewis).
Notching doubles triumphs for the Lady Lions were the No. 1 duo of Welch and Barberie (0-6, 6-2, 10-6), No. 2 Adkins and Hannah Netherland (6-0, 6-0 over Myrick and Lawhon) and No. 3 Uvalle and Renfroe (6-3, 6-1 over Evans and Perry).
In mixed doubles action, the victory belonged to the Brownwood tandem of Ledezma and Jonescue (6-0, 6-2 over Baker and Ratto).
The Lions and Lady Lions (11-2, 1-0) return to action at noon Saturday when they host Glen Rose in a district match rescheduled from Sept. 6 due to rain.
