The Howard Payne Lady Jackets' woes against American Southwest Conference competition continued over the weekend with two more defeats, as their losing streak against league foes reached seven.
On Friday, Mary Hardin-Baylor remained undefeated in American Southwest Conference volleyball action with a straight-set home win over Howard Payne, as the Lady Jackets fell 25-9, 25-18, 25-12.
Zhartaezia Bradley paced the HPU offense with eight kills followed by Mya Ross with four and Kylie Metcalf and Kailey Doering with two each. McKenna Walker distributed 11 assists, Madeline Lopez chipped in four and Kylee Shirley was credited with one. Bradley and Doering each served two aces.
Defensively, Walker and Shirley both tallied six digs followed by Ross with four, Doering with three, Lopez with two and Bradley and Christian Wilson with one each. Walker and Metcalf were each in on two blocks while Bradley, Amaya Marshall and Alexi Bushong finished with one apiece.
For UMHB (13-1, 8-0), Corinne Novak tallied 11 kills, Cory Jo Martin dished out 27 assists, Jenna Gillean and Adrien Valdez served a pair of aces, and Miranda Klein recorded nine digs and logged six blocks.
On Saturday, the Lady Jackets were dealt a three-set road defeat by Concordia, 25-13, 25-22, 25-19.
Bradley finished with nine kills followed by six each from Ross and Doering, three from Metcalf, and one apiece from Shirley, Marshall and Madeleine Kelly. Walker collected 23 assists trailed by Shirley with a pair and Marshall with one. Ross and Jada Terry notched HPU's aces.
On the defensive end, Shirley led the way with 15 digs followed by 10 from Ross, nine from Walker, five from Terry, four each from Bradley and Doering, three from Marshall and one each from Metcalf, Kelly and Wilson. Bradley had a hand in three blocks, Ross, Marshall and Metcalf logged two apiece and Walker contributed one.
Concordia (10-7, 5-2) was the recipient of 11 kills from Sam Mendez, 31 assists from Georgia Quiroz, three aces and 19 digs from Rylee Davis, and three blocks from Marissa Stinson.
Howard Payne (2-13, 1-7) returns to action at 5 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Sul Ross, which the Lady Jackets defeated in Alpine in the ASC opener.
