STEPHENVILLE — The Brownwood Lady Lions will begin the second half of District 7-4A volleyball action Tuesday, sitting in fourth place with a crucial match against fifth-place Mineral Wells on the schedule following Friday’s straight-set loss to No. 22 Stephenville, 25-19, 25-22, 25-15.

With a victory over Mineral Wells Tuesday, which the Lady Lions swept in the district opener at Warren Gym on Sept. 22, Brownwood would essentially secure no worse than the fourth playoff seed as the Lady Rams could not leap the Lady Lions in the final standings unless major upsets occur.

Friday’s match against Stephenville was the third loss in a row for Brownwood (10-16, 1-3) since knocking off Mineral Wells, which is winless in 7-4A action, in the district opener.

Against Stephenville, the Lady Lions received 16 kills from Torrey Miller followed by six from Gracie Boswell, four from Aleyia Cotton, three from Katelyn Windham and one apiece from Davalynn Monroe, Olivia Fowler and Lindsey Larose.

Hadley Monroe distributed 17 assists with Miller contributing nine and Boswell and Caitlyn Moody adding one each.

Fowler and Annie Gillispie both served two aces while Davalynn Monroe tallied one.

Defensively, Davalynn Monroe’s 20 digs led the team followed by seven from Annie Gillispie, five from Miller, four apiece from Moody, Cotton and Windham, two from Fowler and one each by Boswell and Hadley Monroe.

At the net, Miller and Larose were in on two kills each while Fowler and Windham notched one apiece.

Brownwood visits Mineral Wells at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
