HAMILTON – The Early Lady Horns opened the second half of District 6-3A volleyball action with their second loss in a row, falling to Hamilton in four sets, 25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20.
With the loss, Early slips to 3-3 in district action and 19-14 overall with Eastland coming to town at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Mavs knocked off the Lady Horns in the first half of league competition.
“It was not our best game of the season because we were reacting to Hamilton instead of playing our game,” said Lady Horns second-year head coach Natalie Whitewood, whose team defeated Hamilton in the 6-3A opener on Sept. 21 in Early. “We didn’t attack them until our backs were against the wall instead of jumping at them from the start. I’m still proud of the effort because we could have given up but instead we fought hard until the very end.”
Kacee Gober recorded nine kills for Early followed by six from Hope Boswell, four from Trinity Tomlinson, two each from Taylor Summers and Ellie Ryan and one by Alexa Portillo.
Summers dished out 11 assists, Vance Cady Gordon chipped in five and Ryan and Tomlinson added one apiece.
Summers also served a pair of aces while Tomlinson, Gordon, Ryan, Emma Loven and Haley Spieckerman logged one each.
Defensively, Tomlinson amassed a team-best 20 digs trailed by 12 from Summers, 11 from Loven, nine from Portillo, eight from Gordon, six from Spieckerman, two from Gober and one each from Boswell and Ryan.
At the net, Gober collected three blocks while Tomlinson and Ryan contributed one apiece.
