In head coach Yannick Denson's first season, the Howard Payne Lady Jackets are projected to finish fourth in the West Division of the American Southwest Conference women's basketball standings.

Howard Payne (15-11, 11-6) received 47 points in the coaches and media preseason poll, released Thursday. Mary Hardin-Baylor (23-5, 14-3), with 12 first-place votes and 76 points, is the ASC West favorite followed by Concordia (15-12, 10-7) with 51 points, McMurry (13-12, 11-6) with one first-place vote and 50 points), HPU, Hardin-Simmons (6-20, 4-13) with 33 points and Sul Ross (6-19, 4-13) with 16 points.

Lady Jackets Caprica Brooks, Chelsi Woodard and Anastasia Willis were listed on the ASC West Players to Watch list.

In the ASC East, UT-Dallas (24-5, 16-2) tops the preseason list with eight first-place votes and 77 points trailed by East Texas Baptist (25-7, 13-5) with five first-place votes and 71 points), Louisiana College (14-11, 10-8) with one first-place vote and 58 points, Belhaven (4-21, 4-14) with 34 points, LeTourneau (5-20, 5-16) with 33 votes, and Ozarks (4-21, 2-16) with 18 votes.

UT-Tyler (17-9, 13-5) is moving up to NCAA Division II and is therefore ineligible for postseason consideration.

The Lady Jackets tip off their season on Nov. 9 at Austin College. After six games on the road, Howard Payne starts the home portion of the schedule on Dec. 1 in the ASC opener against UT-Dallas.
