GODLEY — The Brownwood Lady Lions came up on the short end of a five-set District 7-4A volleyball decision Friday, falling to Godley, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 13-25, 15-13.
“This was the first time in district we've taken a team to five sets and the girls fought so hard,” said Lady Lions first-year head coach Jessica Withrow. “We worked so well together as a team and played very aggressive defense. I'm very proud of them.”
Torrey Miller unleashed 23 kills to pace the Brownwood offense followed by six from Gracie Boswell, four apiece from Olivia Fowler, Katelyn Windham, Lindsey Larose and Becca Church, and three from Aleyia Cotton.
Hadley Monroe distributed 23 assists, 18 came from Miller, Davalynn Monroe chipped in three and Church was credited with one.
Hadley Monroe also recorded a team-high three aces trailed by Fowler, Miller and Annie Gillispie with two apiece and one from Davalynn Monroe.
On the defensive end, Davalynn Monroe notched 24 digs followed by Gillispie with 14, Miller with 12, Hadley Monroe with nine, Caitlyn Moody with six, Fowler with four, Boswell and Lakyn Ratliff with three each, Windham and Church with two apiece and Larose and Cotton each with one.
At the net, Miller and Larose were in on five blocks, Windham added three and Boswell and Tessa Goodwin finished with one apiece.
The playoff-bound Lady Lions (11-18, 2-5) will wrap up the home portion of their schedule at 5 p.m. Tuesday when the Stephenville Honeybees invade Warren Gym.
