DALLAS — May and Zephyr are sending two athletes apiece — one boy and one girl — to compete in the UIL Class A Cross Country State Championship based on Monday's results at the Region III-A meet at the Jesse Owens Memorial Complex.
The top four teams from each region, and top 10 runners not on a qualifying team, advance to state Saturday, Nov. 3 at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock.
For Zephyr, Gabby Durbin (13:36.6) finished ninth overall and fourth among runners on non-state qualifying teams to advance in girls action, while Garit Durbin (17:48.91) was also fourth among non state-qualifying boys team runners and 19th overall.
For May, Melanie Murphree (13:54.58) placed 16th, but was eighth among non-state qualifying girls team runners, while Boone Allen (18:05.46) came in 24th on the boys side, and seventh among state-qualify team runners.
In the team standings the Zephyr girls were fifth and the May girls were sixth, while the Zephyr boys placed ninth and the May boys came in 10th.
Also running for the Lady Bulldogs were Andrea Taylor (35th, 14:24.45), Bailey Bigham (49th, 14:56.68), Aubrey Bigham (63rd, 15:23.67), Emily Primrose (69th, 15:27.67) and Sidney Mangus (89th, 15:55.49).
Also competing for the Lady Tigers were Shaunda Guerrero (41st, 14:46.16), Marilyn Infante (57th, 15:10.12), Sophia Lord (59th, 15:15.42), Lexi Fox (88th, 15:46.44) and Brianna Steele (118th, 17:01.71).
The rest of the Bulldogs team included Thomas Terpening (38th, 19:12.22), Jeron Terry (72nd, 20:14.81), Cisco Taylor (88th, 21:02.9), Brandon Terry (115th, 22:26.87) and Drew Reynolds (133rd, 24:40.24).
The remainder of the Tigers roster featured Daniel Salinas (62nd, 19:57.34), Rory Bustamante (75th, 20:22.47), Isidro Salinas (80th, 20:42.14), Lane Hardy (102nd, 21:35.5), Ethan Self (105th, 21:38.11) and Kelby Ford (108th, 21:56.74).
Blanket was also represented at regionals as Bailey Hood (15:17.43) placed 60th in the girls draw while Hector Castaneda (20:17.89) was 73rd in boys action.
