The Brownwood Maroon Lions chalked up a 36-16 district victory at Stephenville Thursday night.

The Lions jumped out to a 16-0 advantage in the first period on a 70-yard touchdown run by Major Bowden, followed by a two-point pass from Bowden to Elias Huerta, and a a 7-yard scoring toss from Bowden to Christian Chambers, trailed by a Cade Jetton two-point carry.

Brownwood stretched the lead to 22-0 on a Bowden 1-yard plunge, then Bowden connected with Huerta on a 78-yard scoring toss for a 28-0 cushion. Stephenville scored just before the half to trim the deficit to 28-8.

The Lions added their final touchdown in the third period Bowden again found Huerta for a 29-yard scoring connection, and Jetton chipped in his second two-point conversion of the game.

Stephenville mustered one final touchdown in the fourth period, but mustered no serious threat comeback.

Defensive standouts for Brownwood included Ethan Pesina (6 tackles),Huerta (3 tackles, TFL, FF), Jakob Hataway (3 tackles, INT), and William O'Dell (3 tackles).

 

 

Stephenville 44, JV Lions 13

 

The Brownwood JV Lions came up short against Stephenville in their district contest Thursday night as the Yellow Jackets pulled away in the second half for a 44-13 victory.

The JV Lions trailed just 22-13 at halftime as Brownwood scored on a 70-yard kick return, and Braden Bushnell added the extra point, while Parish White hauled in a 58-yard scoring reception from Baylor Tidwell.

Brownwood, playing without numerous starters due to injury, also turned the ball over twice in the second half.
