GRANBURY — The Class 4A No. 18 Brownwood Lady Lions opened their 2018-19 basketball campaign at Class 5A Granbury Tuesday night and came up on the short end of a 41-38 decision.

The Lady Lions (0-1) led 12-6 after one quarter, 23-16 at halftime and 31-23 through three periods, but were outscored 18-7 over the final eight-minute stanza.

Mallory Garcia paced Brownwood with 19 points trailed by seven from Matyha Thompson, four each from Brooke Price and Kenya Barnes, and two points apiece by Hadley Monroe and Catrina Brooks.

In the decisive fourth quarter, the Lady Lions hit 5 of 6 free throws but converted just 1 of 4 field goals with two turnovers and four fouls committed.

The Lady Lions will attempt to bounce back at Eastland at 4 p.m. Friday.
