The Brownwood Freshman Maroon Lions closed out the season with a 32-16 victory over the China Spring Cougars Thursday night.

The Lions jumped out to a 16-0 advantage in the first period on touchdown runs of 3 and 23 yards by Major Bowden, who also added the two-point conversions.

China Spring crept to within 16-8 in the second period prior to a 37-yard scoring scamper by Bowden, and Cade Jetton contributed the two-point conversion for a 24-8 halftime edge.

After a scoreless third period, China Spring cut Brownwood's lead to 24-16 as the Cougars scored after a Lion fumble in the red zone.

China Spring was driving for the potential tying points when Bowden stripped a Cougar of the ball at the Lions 3, where Brownwood recovered.

The Lions then mounted a decisive 97-yard game-clinching drive that culminated with a 72-yard scoring sprint from Bowden. Elias Huerta caught a two-point conversion from Bowden for the final 16-point margin.

Defensive standouts included Ethan Pesina (4 tackles, TFL), Bowden (4 tackles, FF), Elias Huerta (3 tackles), Jakob Hataway (1 tackle, INT), and Devin Villegas (3 tackles).

China Spring 20, JV Lions 13

The Brownwood JV Lions came up on the short end in their season finale, dropping a 20-13 decision to China Spring Thursday night.

The Lions' touchdowns came on a part of scoring tosses from Baylor Tidwell to Hunter Day covering 37 and 29 yards. Braden Bushnell contributed one extra point.

One Brownwood touchdown was negated during the contest, which proved critical, as Royshad Henderson's 67-yard scoring sprint was wiped out by a flag.
