EASTLAND — Unable to hold on to a fourth-quarter lead in their season opener at Class 5A Granbury on Tuesday, the No. 18 Brownwood Lady Lions bounced back with a 47-41 road triumph over the Class 3A Eastland Lady Mavs Friday.
Brownwood (1-1) led 11-9 after one quarter and 21-17 at halftime, but Eastland drew even at 29 heading into the fourth period, where this time the Lady Lions were able to pull away.
The Lady Lions shot 36 percent (16 of 45) from the floor and knocked down four three-pointers, while grabbing 20 rebounds including six on the offensive end. Brownwood also sank 11 of 15 free throws (73 percent).
Mallory Garcia again led Brownwood with 18 points followed by Matyha Thompson with 11, Hadley Monroe with six, Lindsey Larose with five, McKenzie Welker with three and Brooke Price and Catrina Brooks with two points apiece.
The Lady Lions' early season road swing continues next week at the Brock tournament where Brownwood will face host Brock and Fort Worth Nolan Catholic Thursday, Saginaw and Cisco Friday and Bangs on Saturday.
Brownwood opens its home schedule at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 against Merkel.
