BROCK — The No. 25 Brownwood Lady Lions’ season record remained even after splitting their first two basketball games at the Brock tournament Thursday.

Following a 35-24 loss to host Brock, the Lady Lions rebounded with a 43-39 triumph over Fort Worth Nolan Catholic.

In Brownwood’s victory, the Lady Lions led 13-11 after one quarter, 25-21 at halftime and 34-30 through three frames.

The Lady Lions converted 39 percent of their shots (17 of 44), including six three-pointers. Brownwood also committed just 13 turnovers, grabbed 19 rebounds, recorded three blocks and tallied three steals.

Matyha Thompson scored a season-high 14 points to pace the Lady Lions followed by Mallory Garcia with 13, McKenzie Welker with six, Kenya Barnes with four, Brooke Price with three, Lindsey Larose with two and Hadley Monroe with one point.

In the loss to Brock, Brownwood shot just 21 percent (9 of 43) from the floor and 25 percent (2 of 8) at the free throw line, with 20 turnovers.

The Lady Lions led 9-8 after one quarter, trailed 19-13 at halftime and faced a 25-17 deficit through three periods.

Garcia finished with 11 points for the Lady Lions trailed by Thompson with six, Barnes with four and Monroe with three points.

On Friday, the Lady Lions (1-2) will face Saginaw at 10 a.m. in tournament action, and close the event at 10 a.m. Saturday against Bangs.
