BROCK — The No. 25 Brownwood Lady Lions concluded their five-game stay at the Brock tournament with a 2-3 overall record, posting a 1-2 mark Friday and Saturday.
After splitting games with Brock and Fort Worth Nolan Catholic on Thursday, the Lady Lions fell to Saginaw, 44-23, Friday, defeated Bangs, 40-23, Saturday morning and dropped its weekend to finale to Aledo, 42-32, Saturday afternoon.
In Saturday’s 17-point win over Bangs, the Lady Lions led 11-4 after one quarter, 18-14 at halftime and 25-21 heading into the fourth period, where Brownwood pulled away with a 15-2 scoring edge.
The Lady Lions shot 29 percent (16 of 55) from the floor with four three pointers, but just 44 percent (4 of 9) at the free throw line. Brownwood did record 35 rebounds and 11 steals, and turned the ball over a dozen times.
Kenya Barnes led the Lady Lions with 13 points followed by Matyha Thompson with seven, Mallory Garcia and Ryleigh Dalleh with six points apiece, McKenzie Welker and Brooke Price with three points each and Cartina Brooks with two points.
In Friday’s loss to Saginaw, Brownwood was plagued by 40 turnovers.
The Lady Lions trailed 17-2 after one quarter, 27-8 at halftime and 31-14 through three periods. Garcia finished with seven points trailed by four from Barnes, three each from Price and Thompson, two apiece from CarolAnn Hetzel and Welker and one each by Lindsey Larose and Brooks.
In the weekend finale versus Aledo, Brownwood trailed just 9-7 after one quarter but fell in a 27-16 hole by halftime and faced a 40-28 deficit after three periods.
Brownwood knocked down 26 percent (10 of 36) of its shots, including four treys, and 57 percent (8 of 14) of its free throws. The Lady Lions also notched 25 rebounds and 15 steals, but committed 23 turnovers.
Price and Garcia finished with 10 points apiece trailed by Larose with five, Brooks, Barnes and Welker with two apiece and Hetzel with one point.
The Lady Lions (3-4) open the home portion of their schedule at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday against Merkel.
