LORENA — With back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the Brownwood Lady Lions moved over .500 Thursday at the Lorena tournament.
Brownwood began the day with its most lopsided victory to date, rolling past Waco Reicher, 62-36. The Lady Lions followed with a 41-28 triumph over Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt to improve to 6-5 overall.
In the win over Reicher, Brownwood raced out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter, which grew to 36-16 at halftime and 52-22 through three frames.
The Lady Lions hit 27 percent (20 of 73) of their shots, including six three-pointers, and knocked down 69 percent (16 of 23) of their free throws. Brownwood also pulled down 39 rebounds, with 28 on the offensive end, and recorded 17 steals.
Mallory Garcia and Lindsey Larose led the offense with a dozen points apiece trailed by Matyha Thompson with eight, Kenya Barnes with seven, Ryleigh Dalleh and Brooke Price with six apiece, Hadley Monroe with four and Catrina Brooks and CarolAnn Hetzel with two points each.
In the victory over O.D. Wyatt, the Lady Lions owned a 16-6 edge after one quarter, which grew to 25-12 by halftime and stood at 29-24 through three periods.
Brownwood again sank 27 percent (14 of 51) of its field goals, but only a pair of three-pointers, while draining 57 percent (11 of 19) of its free throws. The Lady Lions yanked down 41 rebounds and committed just 10 fouls.
Garcia led the attack with 18 points trailed by seven from Barnes, four each from Thompson, Larose and Monroe and two points apiece from Dalleh and McKenzie Welker.
The Lady Lions resume tournament action at 2 p.m. Friday against host Lorena.
