GODLEY — On the heels of their District 7-4A-opening upset victory over state-ranked Glen Rose, the Brownwood Lady Lions were upended in their first road league outing, falling to the Godley Lady Cats, 50-48, Tuesday night.

The loss snapped a six-game win streak for the Lady Lions (14-12, 1-1) as Godley (11-17, 1-0) collected the win in its district debut.

Brownwood drained 11 of 31 three-pointers (35 percent) but converted just 5 of 27 field goals (18 percent) inside the arc. The Lady Lions were also 5 of 9 (55 percent) at the free throw line with 10 turnovers and 28 rebounds.

Knotted at 45 late in the fourth period, Godley snapped the tie with a three-pointer and then added an insurance bucket. The Lady Lions closed the gap to two points on a trey by Mallory Garcia, but the Lady Lions were unable to force overtime in the waning seconds.

Ryleigh Dalleh led Brownwood with 18 points followed by Garcia with 15, Matyha Thompson and Kenya Barnes with six apiece and McKenzie Welker with three points.

Brownwood led 15-11 after one quarter, trailed 24-23 at halftime and carried a 40-38 advantage into the fourth period.

The Lady Lions have a district bye Friday then host No. 9 Stephenville, a 38-31 winner over Glen Rose, next Tuesday.
