Lions suffer fourth consecutive defeat to start season, 6-0 against Abilene Cooper
The Brownwood Lady Lions allowed a goal in the first minute of Friday’s non-district outing against the Class 5A Abilene Cooper Lady Cougars, then stormed back for their fourth consecutive victory by a 3-1 count at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Just 50 seconds into the match, the Lady Lions (5-2-1) surrendered a goal from 30 yards out that eluded the leaping fingertips of goal keeper Channing Barron. Barron did not yield another goal and went on to collect a pair of saves.
Just prior to halftime, with under four minutes remaining, Aleyia Cotton evened the score with an assist from Taylar Kinzler.
Brownwood forged ahead, 2-1, in the second half on a goal by Khloe Tobien as Kinzler chipped in her second assist.
The Lady Lions later tacked on an insurance goal as Kinzler scored with an assist from Dusty Van Huss.
The Lady Lions will attempt to stretch their win streak to five games when they venture to Melissa at 5 p.m. Monday.
Cooper 6, Lions 0
The Brownwood Lions slipped to 0-4 on the young season with a 6-0 home loss to Class 5A Abilene Cooper Friday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Cooper broke a scoreless tie with 12:39 left in the first half, then added its second goal just 27 seconds later.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Lions yielded four more goals in the second half.
Tanner Roberts tallied 16 saves in goal for Brownwood, which visits Melissa at 7 p.m. Monday.
