LUBBOCK — The Brownwood Lady Lions carded an 816 team score at the Region I-4A golf preview tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course over the weekend, placing 17th out of 19 teams in the field.

“It was a crazy couple of days,” said Lady Lions golf coach Laura Martin. “I'm so proud of the girls for fighting the cold. Friday it was in the 30s when we started and 79 degrees when we finished and, of course, windy. Saturday it was 33 with a wind chill of 22 when we started at 10 a.m. Two holes in it drops to 29, We kept thinking it was going to warm up. We finished with a temperature of 36 and a wind chill of 32. Insane golf.”

Mallory Garcia fired rounds of 83 and 89 to lead the Lady Lions with a 172 composite score followed by Abby Burks with a 206 following rounds of 105 and 101; Bryanna Galvan with a 207 off rounds of 104 and 103; and Payton Stewart with a 231 after shooing an opening 120 and closing 111.

The Lady Lions finished ahead of Midland Greenwood (841) and Borger (849). Brownwood trailed Andrews I (633), Wolfforth Frenship I (656), Monahans (661), Snyder (670), Andrews II (685), Argyle (689), Seminole (712), Canyon (731), Sweetwater (737), Big Spring (743), Pecos (763), Dumas (784), Hereford (797), Graham (799), Stephenville (799) and Wolfforth Frenship II (801).
