BANGS — The Bangs Dragons held off the Comanche Indians for a 3-2 victory Tuesday afternoon in the District 6-3A baseball opener for both squads.

Bangs (4-5, 1-0) overcame three errors by collecting eight hits, while Dragon pitcher Austin Hall tossed a three-hitter, yielding one walk while striking out eight Comanche (4-7, 0-1) batters.

Offensive standouts for the Dragons included Ethan Sanchez with three hits out of the leadoff spot, two hits from Corbin Freeland and one apiece by Hall, Josh Valdez and Wesley Mitchell.

For Comanche, Jeron Conine tallied two hits — a triple and a double — and both RBIs, while Trendon Morin added a single.

The Dragons grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as, with one out, Freeland doubled home Arias, who led off with a walk, and Valdez then doubled in Freeland.

Bangs increased the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third as Braton Wedeman’s RBI bunt single knocked in Sanchez, who doubled to start the frame.

Conine doubled home Hudson Welch in the fourth inning for Comanche, then Conine tripled home Morin in the sixth, but the rally ended there.

Bangs is slated to visit Early at 2 p.m. Friday.
