STEPHENVILLE — The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions sent portions of their track and field teams to the Stephenville Optimist Relays Thursday, the last meet prior to the District 7-4A event next week.
The Lady Lions finished fourth overall while the Lions came in eighth as a handful of Brownwood athletes missed the Stephenville meet to compete at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas.
The Brownwood girls produced 86 points which trailed Stephenville (156), Abilene Wylie (129) and Graham (105.5). Meanwhile, Brownwood's boys generated 13 points which left them behind Abilene Wylie (148), Midlothian Heritage (123), Granbury (119), Graham (80), Stephenville (62), Mineral Wells (39) and Iredell (24).
The Lady Lions earned eight medals — three gold, two silver, and three bronze.
Event winners included Aleyia Cotton in the 400 meters (59.02), Kenya Barnes in the discus (129-3), and Kylie Morris in the triple jump (35-0).
Audrey Boren was the runner-up in the 3200 meters (13:04.66), as was Alex Fowler in the 800 meters (2:29.77).
Third-place efforts belonged to Barnes in the shot put (36.5), Lakyn Ratliff in the 100 meters (12.62), and Naysa Leach in the 1600 meters (5:57.3).
Finishing fourth were Jaylen Savage and Tessa Goodwin, as they were tied with high jumps of 4-10; Goodwin in the 300-meter hurdles (50.08), Alyssa Preston in the shot put (34-7), and Aleia Burkett in the discus (100-1)
Adding fifth-place performances were Leach in the 800 meters (2:43.21), and Boren in the 1600 meters (5:58.78).
